About Us

Retreat Housing is a community response to the urgent need for affordable and inclusive housing for refugees in Northern Ireland. The purpose of the social enterprise is to support migrants, asylum-seekers and refugees to access housing so they can settle and integrate in Northern Ireland.

Refugees and asylum seekers face a huge range of obstacles – language barriers, poverty, accessing healthcare and education, connecting with services and securing employment after being granted refugee status, to name a few.

The key challenge we are aiming to address is homelessness and housing issues faced by asylum seekers and refugees living in Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland.

Retreat Housing provides unique support to some of the most vulnerable and in-need, through education and ease of access. The social enterprise is led by those who have lived experience of the issues we are aiming to address.

Retreat Housing is a Community Interest Company (NI694888) that is 100% owned by HAPANI, an inclusive, non-governmental charity committed to supporting and empowering people from the Horn of Africa (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan) and beyond in Northern Ireland.
